X-Rite display calibrators seem to be favoured a lot over Colordata's Spyder devices and I think I may try and get one of those because if you're going to invest in such a device you should get it right the first time I believe. This device is the X-Rite i1 Display Pro. Although he uses much more expensive higher quality display calibrators, he did recommend the cheaper device he uses because you get much more consistent results. I actually emailed Simon Baker (TFT Central) about the Spyder 4 Pro specifically and he told me that he's never been that impressed with the Spyder devices because there's a lot of inter-unit variance and he's never found the results to be that great.
Theres an option to upgrade from Pro to Elite via a software upgrade if need be, but it's expensive though.
However I'm not sure whether I need the level of adjustment the Elite offers because I'm not a professional by any means. I'm in the same boat as you, the Pro is more favourable to me due to multi monitor support. Sorry for late reply mate, and I should've saw that you were based in Sydney before I posted the link. Of course if any of you can direct me to another reliable and trustworthy store like Ted's Cameras that has these devices for decently less, then please leave a link to the site in your post, please. This does seem like a lot of money to spend on such a device but I believe that it's a worthwhile investment. NOTE: All prices are in Australian Currency.Īs you can see there is a $70 difference between the Express and the Pro and a $100 difference between the Pro and the Elite. I'll probably be getting the device from Ted's Cameras and at the time of writing the prices are as follows: I would like to not be limited by the number of displays that I can calibrate and for that reason I've been looking at the Pro version but also at the same time looking at the Elite version because it as unlimited adjustability, and knowing how fussy I can be, I think that I may go with the Elite version. 1-Click Calibration: SpyderUtility menu commands provide a quick launch directly to the place sensor. However I'm finding on the Dell that I can't seem to get colours quite right (mostly grey, I've heard that if you can get a neutral grey on your display then every other colour should be correct) and so I've been looking into getting a display calibration device and as such I'm trying to figure out which Spyder 4 version of the product would suit my needs the best. New Features in 5.1 with the optional + Upgrade: SoftProof: Advanced functionality in the main application, lets you open, preview, and SoftProof JPEG and TIFF files, using various ICC profiles such as printer profiles. This gives you the ability to show your clients, friends and family calibrated images anywhere.Okay, so I wasn't getting much of a response with the previous version of this post so I decided to modify it to better get across what I'm asking.Īs some of you may know I bought the Dell P2314H IPS monitor the other week and I've found it alright, colours are certainly much more vibrant than my HP TN panel display.
Spyder4 sensors, the interactive Help, the new industrial design including a lens cap for sensor protection, the enhanced SpyderProof functionality, the multiple monitor support for Spyder5EXPRESS, PRO and ELITE and it’s double shielded filters for higher durability and greater longevity.

"we tested Spyder3 on a few Windows 10 machines, however, depending upon your computer's configuration, the software may run or not run. This is what Datacolor wrote in their answer: Comparing the two profiles, Spyder3 had cut me a lot of greens compared to sRGB and the Spyder5 profile was much better. So I contacted Datacolor and in the end I bought a Spyder5 with 30% discount and I even got a lenscal with it. It worked, did calibrations etc., but I had the impression that something was wrong. I had the same situation: I had upgraded to Win10 and used my Spyder3 there.
